"Britain’s leading electro-acoustic music theatre ensemble"
Nicholas Williams, The Independent

VOCEM e.v.t. have been practising the art of staging concert music with voices and electronics for 18 years. The company has also built a reputation for new opera, education work, television and recording. They perform extensively in Britain and Europe, and often further afield. In 1997 Vocem premiered Rashomon: the Opera by Alejandro Vinao & Craig Raine for the opening of ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany. The production was subsequently presented at IRCAM in Paris and the Almeida Opera in London. In 1999 the company took part in a new production of the opera in Gotenberg, Sweden.

Critical praise for VOCEM

"If electric voice turns you on, the group is a dream come true"
Andrew Stewart, Classical Music

"This is more than a motley collection of singers who get together sporadically to explore vocal techniques… they have become a highly responsive unit, carving out an individual repertory for themselves and presenting it with commitment and great musical conviction."
Andrew Clements, Financial Times

"They can sing in a variety of styles from bel canto to pop and change their timbre from extreme beauty to violent harshness with a degree of virtuosity seldom heard in Scotland. Viva Vocem !"
Janet Best. The Scotsman

"Aural Theatre at its best"
